I fixed this in v2.16. Can you confirm? I also re-designed the Workflow feature for this use case (direct keyboard trigger). It should work more reliably and a lot faster now.

Hi Stefan, I found a possible cause in the recent rich-text changes. BoltAI was unnecessarily reading and converting clipboard content again when starting a workflow without a preview, which could make it unresponsive.
I’ve prepared a fix, though I haven’t confirmed it matches your exact freeze yet. Which app are you selecting text in when this happens? Does it also happen with a short sentence in TextEdit?
It did happen in WhatsApp for Mac, and it sounds like what happened to me. I've now got Claude to write me an app that does the same but without the issue, so don't use Bolt for this anymore.

Sorry you had to work around this yourself. Would you be up for trying it once more in WhatsApp with some test text and letting me know which workflow you used? I’d like to reproduce the same setup here and get it fixed. Totally understand if you’d rather not spend more time on it.
This is now the third time I'm replying to your post because every time I try Bolt
AI to spell-check it, it crashes the post and often also crashes Bolt AI.
I also tried in WhatsApp again. The first time you use the bold shortcut, it does nothing but delete the text. But that has always been an issue—the second time it crashes WhatsApp—but after restarting, it did work once.
However, when I tried to use the bold shortcut on what I'm writing here now it crashed the window. So everything I've written is gone. I tried this twice with the same result, so that's why it's the third time now I'm writing all of this.
I tried it again for the second time using these text in Opera, and it crashes the whole input box—and I have to retype everything again. I should mention my Claude generated Spell checker app works fine

Thanks for sending the crash report, especially after all that frustration.
It helped me pinpoint where Bolt is crashing: while capturing text from the clipboard. I’m checking a fix for overlapping shortcut runs and adding safeguards to protect your text when a workflow fails.
No need to try it again right now. I’ll follow up once I’ve verified the fix.

I’m not sure why yet as I haven’t changed the AI Workflow feature for a while. Any chance you can share more on how can I reproduce the issue. I assume you’re on the latest version 2.15?

Next time it freezes, before force-quitting:
Open Activity Monitor and select BoltAI.
Click the … menu → Sample Process.
Save the report and email it to hello@boltaisupport.com.
That should show where it’s getting stuck.
