Move from Setapp to the website version of BoltAI
Export your BoltAI data from the Setapp version and import it into the website version.
Written By Daniel Nguyen
The Setapp and website versions of BoltAI are separate Mac apps, so they do not share the same local database. Follow this guide to export your data from the Setapp version and import it into the website version downloaded from the BoltAI website.
Importing the file adds supported data to the website version. It does not delete the data in your Setapp version.
Before you begin
Update the Setapp version of BoltAI to the latest version available in Setapp.
Keep the Setapp version installed until you have confirmed that your important data is available in the website version.
1. Export your data from the Setapp version
Open the Setapp version of BoltAI.
Choose File → Export Data… from the menu bar.
Keep the items you want to move selected.
Select Export Data….
Choose where to save the
.jsonexport file.
Keep your export private: If you export AI Services, the file includes your API keys unencrypted. Store the file somewhere safe and delete it after you finish the migration.
2. Import the file into the website version
Install and open the website version of BoltAI.
Complete the initial setup, or choose the import option during onboarding.
If you have already completed onboarding, choose File → Import Data… from the menu bar.
Select BoltAI as the import source.
Drag the
.jsonexport into the import window, or select Browse Files… and choose it.Wait for the import to finish.
Your existing data in the website version will not be deleted.
What gets imported?
BoltAI imports the supported items you selected during export, including:
Chats and messages
Folders and project instructions
Prompts
AI assistants and agents
AI commands and workflows
Memories
AI services and API keys, if selected
Supported preferences and settings
After importing
Review your chats, folders, prompts, agents, workflows, and other important data in the website version before removing the Setapp version or deleting the export file.
If you want to use Cloud Sync or the BoltAI mobile app:
Open Settings → Cloud Sync in the website version on your Mac.
Sign in and enable Cloud Sync.
Sign in to BoltAI on your iPhone or iPad using the same BoltAI account.
The website version does not include Setapp AI credits. To use AI models, add your own API key, connect a local provider such as Ollama, or enable the Codex CLI integration in Settings → AI Providers.
