Enable or disable multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Set up an authenticator app or turn MFA off for your BoltAI account on Mac or the web.

Written By Daniel Nguyen

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an authenticator code to your BoltAI account sign-in. You can turn it on or off in BoltAI for Mac or from your account on the web.

You’ll need to sign in to your BoltAI account and have an authenticator app that generates 6-digit codes.

Enable MFA on Mac

These steps apply to the website version of BoltAI 2 for Mac. The Setapp version does not show these MFA controls.

  1. Open BoltAI > Settings > Security.

  2. Under Multi-Factor Authentication, select Authenticator App. Sign in if prompted.

  3. Select Set Up Authenticator.

  4. In your authenticator app, add a new account and scan the QR code. If you cannot scan it, select Copy setup key and enter the key manually in your authenticator app.

  5. In BoltAI, select Continue and enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app. BoltAI verifies it automatically when you enter all six digits. You can also select Verify.

  6. When you see Authenticator App Added, select Done.

MFA is now enabled for your account. Other devices may ask you to sign in or verify again.

Disable MFA on Mac

Keep the BoltAI entry in your authenticator app until you have finished turning MFA off. You may need its code to confirm your identity.

  1. Open BoltAI > Settings > Security > Authenticator App.

  2. Select Turn Off.

  3. In the confirmation dialog, select Turn Off again.

  4. If BoltAI asks for an authenticator code, enter it, then return to Authenticator App and repeat the Turn Off steps.

When Set Up Authenticator appears again, MFA is off. BoltAI will no longer require that authenticator code to sign in.

Enable MFA on the web

  1. Open your account’s Security page and sign in to your BoltAI account.

  2. Under Multi-Factor Authentication, select Set up authenticator.

  3. Enter an App name that helps you identify the authenticator, then select Continue.

  4. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or use Copy setup key to add it manually.

  5. Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app and select Enable MFA.

  6. Wait for Authenticator app added. The Security page will show Authenticator app enabled with an On badge.

Disable MFA on the web

Keep your authenticator available until MFA is off.

  1. Open your account’s Security page and sign in.

  2. Under Multi-Factor Authentication, select Turn off.

  3. Confirm by selecting Turn off again.

  4. If you are asked to verify your identity, enter your authenticator code, then return to the Security page and repeat the Turn off steps.

  5. Check that the page shows Multi-factor authentication is off before removing the BoltAI entry from your authenticator app.

If you need help

My code is not accepted

Use the latest 6-digit code for your BoltAI account. If it has just expired, wait for the next code and try again. This code comes from your authenticator app, not your email inbox.

I started setup but did not finish

Choose Continue Setup on the Mac, or Continue setup in the original browser session. If you cannot continue, choose Delete Setup or Delete setup, confirm, and start again. MFA is enabled only after you successfully verify a code.

I want to switch authenticator apps

Turn MFA off while you still have access to your current authenticator. Then follow the enable steps using your new app.

I lost access to my authenticator

Try restoring it using your authenticator app’s backup or recovery options. If you still cannot sign in, contact BoltAI Support for help. Do not send your setup key or verification codes.

The Mac says “Multiple authenticators found”

Select Manage on Web and follow the instructions to choose which authenticator to keep.
